This year we bid a fond farewell to our Chairperson and musical guide over the past 18 years, Mary Keane, as she retires from the festival committee. Mary has been the visionary in creating the Skerries Trad Weekend which started out in May 2001 as an intimate celebration of the best in traditional Irish music in Ireland. She then guided and nurtured the concept of the weekend from those humble beginnings right through to the renowned festival it is today while simultaneously planting Skerries firmly on the trad map of Ireland.
The STW committee, both current and past, would like to extend our sincere thanks to Mary for her magnanimous dedication, experience and love of traditional Irish music, song and dance which she has brought not only to Skerries but indeed has passed on to everyone who has encountered her on her determined musical journey over the past two festival decades in reviving trad in Skerries, bringing top class performers to the town and passing on the tradition to the next generations.
Unfortunately, there is no replacement for Mary Keane and all the behind-the-scenes work she accomplished over the years! Therefore, as the new committee finds its feet, the 2019 festival will focus purely on sessions. We’re looking for as much support as possible this year to keep the festival alive with music, song and dance from musicians, singers, dancers and listeners alike, with a view to expanding the festival once again next year in May 2020.
The voluntary committee of Skerries Traditional Music Weekend is very grateful for the kind sponsorship and support of Joe May's, The Bus Bar, The Gladstone, The Salty Dog, The Snug and The Mills this year.
